In these particular designs, I tried to use the composition and repetition of certain letters and words to interpret the meaning of the words. For example, the composition of the word pattern was so that the letters were spaced out equally like it were in a grid; the idea of the shape of patterns being repeated in an orderly structure.
The word 'Reach' was just embossed into damp paper without oil paints. This word was derived from the word 'freedom', the idea that you are free to take a chance and reach out to people and opportunities. The embossed technique gives a peaceful feel to it, there's something pure and innocent about it, showing that when you're free, everything's turns calm and you don't feel stressed at all.
With the word 'Stretched', I looked more into how I could use typography to indicate the sound of the word. Hence, the use of more than one 'E', how the words ascend from the left to the middle and descend from the middle to the right. In addition, the fact that the 'E's are in white on black, exaggerates them and shows which part of the word is more accentuated.
All in all, I am happy with the prints I have produced in just two Letterpress classes.
