Editorial Illustration Development

I'm finding it difficult to decide which direction to go with this project. Look at the architecture in Poole or stick with the nature side of it which apparently, no one has come up with.

I was looking at Deanne Cheuk and Russ Mill's work which has inspired me to use their technique of an explosion of colour with subtle drawings worked into them:

These images are examples of an explosion of colour and because of that they are very attractive and visually pleasing. At first the eye is drawn into the image by the random mark-making which then makes u want to look more thoroughly into the details behind it. It is this attraction I want to gain so that the onlooker will want to look at my work and then try to suss out the meaning behind it.

In Deanne Cheuk's piece on the left, I feel that the use of just black on white line drawing works well to create a contrast with the colours behind it. It brings out the drawings in a way even though it is the more subtle technique of mark-making.

Russ Mill's piece on the other hand uses the explosion of red and black to create a sense of blood and pain which could be the colours and technique I use in my duckling piece to give a feeling of an infection or disease on the animal. Again, only line drawing is used to fill in the facial features on the person which works well to compliment the piece by not making it look over done.
