PromoPrint Crit

This went well, though it took a considerable amount of time to go through everyone's booklet. In the end, there wasn't time to go through everyone's and some people ended up having theirs looked at only briefly, then a general crit was given to those people. Unfortunately I was one of those people. Though saying that, I still managed to come up with improvements I could make to my booklet. This included making sure that I had the correct 3 mm bleed around the edge; consistency of font and possibly it's size (making sure it's clearly legible) and getting rid of any widows. Though I think the biggest problem with my booklet at the time was that there was no proper style going on except for the watermark drawings in the background. This made the booklet look a little crowded and hard to focus on the images which ultimately was what the booklet was all about.

So, having said that, I decided to start a new layout but using the same grid as before. By doing this, I was able to come up with a simple and successful layout which primarily focused on the images (i.e. my work). I found that my final booklet looked a lot more professional and easier to read. It was quite difficult finding a colour which could be maintained throughout the booklet as well as compliment my images, but I think the orange I've chosen works well and reflects my personality quite well. I still used a couple of letterpress pieces as background images to add depth to the booklet, though I feel it's the random orange blocks on each page which brings the layout together as a whole.

If I were to change the booklet in any way, it may be to look at different ways of binding it together and use the skills I learnt in the bookbinding classes. Layout wise, I don't think there would be anything major I would have to improve as I already took the comments I got from the crit to produce a brand new, better layout for my booklet.
